Gongbi Painting (4) – Peony Flowers
About Course
The Art of Peony and Bee Painting: A Gongbi Journey
Course Description
This refined painting style is an excellent way to relieve stress and restore energy. Originating in China over 2,000 years ago, it remains a highly respected and influential art form in the world today. Gongbi painting is characterized by precise brushwork, delicate layering, and meticulous attention to detail, requiring patience and focus to master.
In this Peony Flower and Bee Painting Course, we will start from the very basics, beginning with an introduction to painting materials before moving on to outlining and coloring each element of the composition. Alongside the technical aspects, we will also explore the cultural significance of peonies and bees in Chinese art.
Please note that this course does not include the illustration phase of the painting. Instead, a pre-made black and white outline will be provided for download. Since illustration requires a different skill set, it will not be the focus of this beginner-level course.
Much like a fine wine, this painting style requires patience and care. As you immerse yourself in the painting process, you will find yourself slowing down, allowing for a sense of calm and mindfulness to take over.
Course Objectives
This course focuses on painting the symbolic peony flower, often regarded as a representation of prosperity, beauty, and honor in Chinese culture. Additionally, we will learn to paint bees, paying special attention to their transparent wings and fine details.
