Gongbi Painting (3) – Magnolia Flower
About Course
Course Description
This refined painting style is perfect for releasing mental stress and restoring your energy. Originating in China over 2,000 years ago, this art form has maintained its prestigious place in the art world to this day. Like a fine wine, it requires patience and care, qualities you will develop naturally throughout the painting process. As you immerse yourself in each brushstroke, you will find yourself slowing down, as will the world around you—allowing you to enjoy a moment of peace and tranquility.
Course Objective
In this course, we will begin by using a brush to outline flowers and branches, gradually moving on to coloring the delicate magnolia blossoms. Alongside painting techniques, we will also explore relevant aspects of Chinese culture to deepen your understanding of this traditional art form.
Our focus will be on painting the magnolia flower, refining coloring techniques, and learning to outline and shade branches while integrating background elements. Since this is a beginner-level course, you will not need to create the outline yourself—a pre-made outline will be provided for direct download.
Did you know that magnolia flowers are called “Mù Lán” (木兰) in Chinese? The name is famously shared with Mulan, the legendary heroine who took her father’s place in battle. If you look closely, you’ll notice magnolia blossoms woven throughout the visual storytelling of the movie, serving as a symbolic thread.
